About me

I am an artist, art educator and passionate photographer. I was born in Berlin, Germany. I studied Fine Arts/Photography at the University of Art (Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst) in Leipzig and worked as a freelance photographer and as a photo-editor for a daily newspaper (TAZ) in Berlin, Germany.

About 30 years ago, I made beautiful Barbados my home, and have worked as the art teacher of the Codrington School, the International School of Barbados, for the last 19 years. During these years, I have taught students in their Primary years, Middle years and at Diploma level. In 2013 I received the ECIS (European Council of International Schools) Award for the Promotion of International Education.

Over the years, I have run many art workshops and art-and-craft camps for children, and have created large 3-dimensional artworks on plywood for children to touch (so called Sensory Boards) for the Barbados Children's Development Centre and Children's Homes, to be used in occupational therapy.

In the late 90ies until 2000, I ran with a friend a small art gallery and art-and-craft-shop in Baystreet, called the Perseverance House of Art. I have participated in a few art exhibitions (such as at the Waterfront Café in Bridgetown) and in many art and craft market events in Barbados (such as at the Holetown and Crop Over festival).

I am the co-author of the journalistic photo-book Gefuehl und Schaerfe, Fotos fuer die TAZ, Rixdorfer Verlagsanstalt 1982 (Germany) and the author of Picture Science, Using Digital Photography to Teach Young Children, Redleaf Press 2007 (USA). My book Picture Science won the prestigious 2007 Directors' Choice Award and the Judges' Selection Award from Early Childhood News (USA).

Now retired from my fulltime teaching job at the Codrington School, I do have the time to focus on my very own creative endeavors and to actively follow my life-long interest in Drawing, Painting and Fine Art Photography. I am a member of the Barbados Photographic Society. I especially love Black-and-White Photography, and I have loved to draw and paint since childhood. I mostly work with acrylic paints on canvas (but also on paper or other surfaces), and I love to explore the endless opportunities of mixing and combining different media, including the use of objects. I am also very interested in Intuitive Painting, as I strongly believe in the healing powers of art.
